Be enchanted by the almond blossoms

When nature envelops itself in a sea of soft pink and white blossoms, spring is not far away ... Be enchanted by the almond blossoms on the Costa Blanca and discover the authentic interior during a blossom tour.

Almond blossoms on the Costa Blanca

Every year, from late January to early March, the Costa Blanca turns into a sea of soft pink and white flowers as the almond trees blossom. This moment is traditionally seen as the announcement of spring. Depending on the altitude, this phenomenon may occur earlier or later in the different villages, but it is a unique experience everywhere. This stunning natural spectacle is best experienced by exploring the region's picturesque mountain villages and scenic valleys. Here the blossoms are at their most vibrant and you can find them in great quantity. We are happy to share with you some of Richard Rentals' favorite spots for a magical blossom tour!

The enchanting Jalon Valley

The Jalon Valley is one of the most popular destinations for almond blossom lovers. Known for its rolling hills and endless rows of almond trees, this area, with its breathtaking views, is a paradise for nature lovers. The village of Jalon itself is also worth a visit. Look out for road signs indicating "Xaló," which is the Valencian name of the village. On Saturdays, the lively rastro or flea market is definitely a must-see. You can browse an eclectic and diverse selection of curios and collectibles, each with its own story and character. From vintage treasures to handmade crafts, each find is unique. Negotiating the price is obviously part of the deal, and the closer to closing time, the better chance you have of finding a bargain. Afterwards, head to the authentic Spanish Bar Allelujah for a refreshing drink or a generous Spanish "bocadillo" or sandwich. The terrace in the back is a little gem. Jalon is also otherwise famous for its wine, produced primarily from the Moscatel grape, which is known for its sweet, floral flavor with subtle citrus notes. While in Jalon, you can take the opportunity to visit the Bodega de Jalon. At this local winery, you can learn more about the production process and also taste some of the local wines. Guadalest, Pearl of the Costa Blanca

Perched higher in the mountains, Guadalest is a gem that combines history, culture and natural beauty. This small village has cobbled streets, a historic castle and panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. During the almond blossom period, the trip to Guadalest is even more beautiful than usual, with fields of flowering trees lining the roads. Climb to the top of the village and be rewarded with breathtaking views of the turquoise reservoir. Don't forget to explore the rest of the village as well, with its small museums and picturesque stores adding to the charm of this absolute must-see spot on the Costa Blanca. The beauty of Guadalest is hard to describe, but one thing is for sure; if you were there once, you will always want to go back. Sunset lovers visit Guadalest in the afternoon, because during "golden hour" Guadalest is enchantingly beautiful.

If you want to grab a bite to eat in Guadalest, these are our recommendations:

- La Venta de Guadalest: A traditional Spanish restaurant serving local dishes. Contact information is not readily available, but it is the first bar you encounter as you enter the village from the large municipal parking lot and located on the corner opposite the old laundry, with only a few tables on the terrace along the road.

- Pizzeria El Patio: A small restaurant that looks like a typical taberna from southern Spain, while serving some of the best Italian pizza we have ever tasted; www.pizzeriaelpatioguadalest.com.

Unparalleled Views in Pinos

After visiting Jalon, it is an easy and relatively quick drive to Pinos, a small hamlet in the mountains. But even without a prior visit to Jalon, the drive to Pinos is worthwhile, with a scenic route along winding roads and spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Incidentally, there is little to do in Pinos and time seems to have stood still there. Unwind and enjoy a traditional paella at Restaurante Pinos, or order a selection of tasty and affordable Spanish tapas at El Peón de Pinos. Pinos is the perfect place to unwind after a day of blossom hikes, or just when you want to leave the civilized world behind to enjoy 'slow life'.

- Restaurante Pinos:Located at Partida 30 A Pinos, 03720, Benissa, Spain. Telephone: +34 965 97 30 19.

- El Peón de Pinos:Located at Partida Pinos 9-B, 03720, Benissa, Spain. Phone: 629 655 035 or 609 378 587.

Fleeting but enchanting

The almond blossoms normally last from late January to early March, so don't wait too long to make the most of this enchanting season. A car is necessary to reach the villages, but once there you can tour around by car, take a beautiful mountain hike or enjoy a bike ride. The season is short, as the almond blossom is particularly fleeting. However, a blossom tour is not easily forgotten and is probably one of the most magical experiences on the Costa Blanca outside the high season.
